Fluid Mechanics (CIW 402)

Course Prerequisites

Description

The theoretical part of this course aims to teach students the principle or engineering fundamental of Fluid mechanics. This includes fluid properties (density, specific weight, viscosity), Pressure distributions, forces on surfaces, and buoyancy, Types of flow (laminar and turbulent), Energy heads in fluids, Bernoulli's theorem, Energy and hydraulic grade lines , Power in flows, Momentum principle and forces in moving fluids, Friction losses and roughness in pipes. This course is an introductory course that is essential for all water related courses in later years, which will utilize the concepts and basic science in all of them. The practical part of this course is held at the hydraulic laboratory and aims to give students a clear taste of fluid properties and a clear understanding of how fluid behaves in various situations due to fluid own properties.
