Description
The Lab Engineer supports the operation and the delivery of the undergraduate courses in the Metrology Laboratory by assisting staff and students during lab sessions, preparing equipment and measurement tools, ensuring safety and proper operation of devices, and facilitating the achievement of learning outcomes related to precision measurement and quality control.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Preparation
Prepare the lab before each session by setting up instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, CMM, surface roughness testers, gauge blocks).
Ensure all equipment is calibrated, clean, and functioning properly.
Organize workstations and distribute lab sheets and measurement samples.
2. Student Support During Labs
Demonstrate the correct use of measurement instruments and explain the underlying principles.
Guide students through lab exercises, ensuring they understand measurement procedures, data collection, and error analysis.
Provide technical assistance during experiments and ensure proper handling of precision tools.
3. Safety and Quality Assurance
Enforce laboratory safety rules and proper usage of equipment.
Ensure compliance with handling instructions for precision devices.
Report equipment damage, malfunction, or calibration issues.
4. Academic Support
Assist the instructor in explaining theoretical concepts related to dimensional metrology, tolerances, uncertainties, and quality control.
Help answer student questions during sessions and office hours (if assigned).
Support grading of lab reports, assignments, and quizzes, following instructor guidelines.
5. Administrative & Logistical Tasks
Maintain inventory of instruments and consumables.
Document equipment usage, calibration status, and maintenance log.
Assist with uploading materials to the LMS and collecting student submissions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or any relevant field.
Strong knowledge of metrology concepts and experience using common measurement tools.
Good communication skills and ability to guide undergraduate students.
Very good command of English language spoken and written
