The German University in Cairo (GUC) and the German International University (GIU) honored the top Thanaweya Amma students of 2026 who were awarded full scholarships at both universities, in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements and as part of their continued commitment to supporting and nurturing Egypt’s most talented students.

The ceremony brought together the honored students, their families, and academic leaders from both universities. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GUC and GIU, welcomed the students and their families, alongside Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of the German University in Cairo, and Prof. Slim Abdennadher, President of the German International University, as well as university deans and faculty members. The ceremony began at the GIU campus in the New Administrative Capital before continuing at GUC in Cairo, where the students were formally honored and presented with their scholarships.

In his remarks, Prof. Mansour emphasized that supporting outstanding students is a fundamental part of the educational philosophy of both universities. He highlighted that the annual tradition of welcoming Egypt’s top Thanaweya Amma students reflects the universities’ belief that financial circumstances should never stand in the way of a talented student’s aspirations or prevent them from accessing an education that matches their abilities.

Prof. Mansour described education as one of the most sustainable investments in people and in the nation’s future, stressing that providing outstanding students with access to world-class university education is an investment in the minds that will contribute to knowledge creation and compete internationally.

Prof. Mansour further emphasized that the scholarships represent far more than financial assistance; they are an investment in each student’s capabilities, talents, and future. He encouraged the students to choose their fields of study according to their interests and abilities, rather than allowing the scholarship itself to determine their academic path. He also reassured students that maintaining the scholarship is based on fulfilling the required academic standards and making a genuine effort throughout their university journey, supported by the universities’ academic advising system.

He also highlighted the important role of families in the students’ achievements, recognizing the support and encouragement that parents have provided throughout their children’s academic journeys.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees stressed that GUC and GIU operate as an integrated educational system, offering students diverse academic pathways and opportunities. He noted that the two universities’ educational and research ecosystem extends from Cairo and the New Administrative Capital to Berlin, connecting students with universities, research centers, and industrial partners in Germany and across Europe.

The scholarships reflect the continued commitment of GUC and GIU to attracting and nurturing exceptional talent, fostering a culture of innovation and creativity, and providing students with the knowledge, practical skills, and international exposure needed to become future leaders, researchers, and innovators.

Through their continued investment in education, research, innovation, and international partnerships, GUC and GIU remain committed to empowering Egypt’s outstanding students and transforming academic excellence into meaningful contributions to society and the future.
