The German International University in Berlin successfully concluded the fourth edition of Connects 2026 Workshops, held from 20 to 30 July 2026, bringing together 523 participants in a vibrant international learning environment that fostered creativity, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Launched in 2023 by GIU Berlin in partnership with the German University in Cairo (GUC) and in collaboration with the German International University (GIU), Connects has become a leading international initiative that strengthens academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation between Egypt and Germany. The programme is led by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo and the German International University.

This year's edition welcomed 236 students from GUC, 243 students from GIU, and 44 students from various universities, who participated in 24 interactive workshops delivered by 39 instructors from Egypt and Germany.

The workshops covered a diverse range of disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Design, and Music, offering participants hands-on learning experiences in emerging technologies, creative design practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Throughout the ten-day programme, students developed practical and creative skills while engaging with distinguished academics and industry professionals in an international setting.

In addition to the academic programme, participants enjoyed cultural and networking activities designed to encourage collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and the exchange of ideas among students from different backgrounds.

The official closing ceremony featured the attendance of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo and the German International University; Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of the German University in Cairo; Prof. Dr. Slim Abdennadher, President of the German International University; and Prof. Ralf Klischewski, President of GIU Berlin.

The event also welcomed distinguished political, diplomatic, academic, and cultural guests, including Dr. Mohamed Elbadry, Ambassador of Egypt to Germany; Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, Mayor of Reinickendorf, Berlin; Mr. Peter Greisler, Ministerial Director at the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), representatives of the Ministry, and numerous academic and diplomatic figures.

The ceremony featured welcome speeches, followed by "Connecting Through Music," a special artistic performance blending traditional and contemporary Egyptian music. Guests also toured an exhibition showcasing participants' projects and workshop outcomes, reflecting the innovation, creativity, and practical skills developed throughout the programme.

Since its launch, Connects has continued to serve as a global platform that inspires young talents, promotes knowledge exchange, and strengthens international collaboration. Through initiatives such as Connects, the German universities reaffirm their commitment to advancing excellence in education and building lasting academic and cultural bridges between Egypt and Germany, empowering the next generation of innovators and future leaders.
