The German University in Cairo (GUC) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Saxony State Parliament (Landtag) on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, in a visit that highlighted the continued strengthening of German–Egyptian academic cooperation.

The delegation was led by Peter Oliver Fritzsche, Member of the State Parliament (MdL) and Chair of the Working Group. The visit was coordinated in collaboration with the German Embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering international partnerships in higher education and research.

The delegation was received by Prof. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the GUC Board of Trustees, who welcomed the guests and led discussions focused on expanding future collaboration. The visit also included a comprehensive campus tour, offering insights into GUC’s academic environment, facilities, and its role within the German transnational education landscape.

Discussions explored several key areas of cooperation, including student and faculty exchange, the development of joint and double degree programs, and the advancement of collaborative research and innovation initiatives. Additional focus was placed on strengthening industry-linked training opportunities, internships, and expanding cooperation in cultural, artistic, and sports activities.

Both sides expressed strong interest in deepening collaboration through the establishment of joint working groups and the launch of pilot projects aimed at enhancing academic and institutional partnerships.

The visit further underscored the role of GUC—and its sister institution, the German International University (GIU)—as leading platforms for German transnational education. Together, they represent a significant share of German higher education presence outside Germany, contributing to knowledge exchange, innovation, and cross-cultural engagement.

This engagement reflects GUC’s ongoing commitment to building sustainable international partnerships and reinforcing its position as a bridge between Egypt and Germany in the fields of education, research, and innovation.
