The German University in Cairo (GUC) has signed a cooperation protocol with the Aswan Governorate to implement the governorate’s visual identity project, reinforcing the university’s leading role in supporting national development initiatives through design, innovation, and applied research.

The agreement reflects a shared vision to enhance the visual and cultural identity of Aswan, one of Egypt’s most historically rich and culturally distinctive cities, through a comprehensive branding approach that highlights its heritage and tourism potential.

The project will be implemented by GUC’s specialized teams, particularly through its Egypt Branding Center, which has previously developed visual identity concepts for several Egyptian governorates. The initiative focuses on creating an integrated visual system that includes logos, urban elements, signage, and design applications that reflect the unique character of Aswan.

This collaboration comes within the broader framework of the national “Egypt Visual Identity” initiative, launched under a presidential mandate, aiming to present Egyptian cities in a modern and unified visual language while preserving their cultural authenticity.

The visual identity of Aswan is designed to capture the essence of the city—its rich Nubian heritage, vibrant colors, and strong connection to the Nile—translating these elements into a cohesive design language that enhances both local pride and international recognition.

Through this partnership, GUC continues to bridge academia and real-world application by contributing its expertise to national projects that support tourism, urban development, and cultural preservation.

The protocol also reflects GUC’s ongoing commitment to empowering students and researchers to participate in impactful projects that extend beyond the classroom, providing them with opportunities to contribute to shaping Egypt’s visual and cultural landscape.
