The German University in Cairo (GUC) had the distinct honor of welcoming a high-profile delegation from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The visit marked an important milestone in the long-standing collaboration between GUC and DAAD, aimed at fostering academic exchange, innovation, and international cooperation.

The delegation included Dr. Michael Harms, DAAD Deputy Secretary General, and Dr. Wiebke Bachmann, Director of the DAAD Regional Office in Cairo. The distinguished guests were warmly received by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, University President, alongside the Vice Presidents and Deans of the University’s various faculties.

Following the formal reception, the delegation was guided on a comprehensive tour of GUC’s cutting-edge campus facilities. Highlights included visits to the state-of-the-art Industry Park, and the German International School in Cairo (DISK) — particularly its Sieger Talent Center, which showcases GUC's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering academic excellence across all student segments.

The visit served as a platform to present the outstanding work of GUC’s professors, researchers, and students — all of which reflect the university's enduring spirit of innovation, quality education, and impactful research.

Prior to the campus tour, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, a warm welcome dinner was held in honor of Dr. Harms, who arrived from Germany earlier that day. The dinner brought together representatives from both DAAD and GUC, many of whom have worked with Dr. Harms since his tenure as Head of the DAAD Regional Office in Cairo beginning in 2010.

This visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted academic ties between GUC and DAAD, and further emphasized the shared commitment to advancing scientific cooperation, student and faculty exchange, and research excellence between Egypt and Germany.
