In a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture, and national pride, the German University in Berlin launched the third edition of its flagship program, Connects 2025, bringing together hundreds of young Egyptians and more than 600 students from Egyptian universities. The event was attended by representatives from the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin, ambassadors of several African nations, and officials from German and international institutions.

This year’s edition of Connects reaffirmed the program’s role as a dynamic platform for cultural and academic exchange between Egypt and Germany, while fostering innovation, creativity, and global dialogue among Egyptian and German youth.

The opening ceremony began with a powerful performance of the “Hymn of Isis” by soprano Ohood Khader, Director of the University’s Music Academy, followed by a medley of iconic Egyptian patriotic songs, including “Helwa Ya Baladi” and beloved classics by Umm Kulthum. The musical program created a warm, joyful atmosphere, engaging both Egyptian and German audiences and highlighting the deep cultural bonds between the two nations.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo (GUC), expressed his pride in launching the third edition of the program. He emphasized the university’s unwavering commitment to its national and social mission of preparing future generations to meet global challenges, while promoting Egyptian identity on the international stage.

He added that this year’s Connects 2025 program features a wide range of workshops and training sessions in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, technology, design, and architecture. In addition, the event includes artistic and musical performances, as well as interactive student projects inspired by Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Mohamed Elbadri, Egypt’s Ambassador to Germany, and Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, Mayor of the Reinickendorf district, both delivered welcome speeches, praising the significance of Connects in strengthening Egyptian-German relations through education and culture. They hailed the program as a pioneering model of cultural and academic diplomacy.

Dr. Peter Greisler, representing the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, also addressed the audience, describing Connects as an exceptional opportunity to bring people closer through shared innovation and creativity. He emphasized that students are the true drivers of collaboration between nations.

One of the highlights of the event was a special showcase of a miniature replica of the Grand Egyptian Museum installed on campus. In a dedicated keynote lecture, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum, shared insights into the museum’s unique features and its significance as a symbol of Egyptian civilization and a gift from Egypt to the world.

The event concluded on a high note, with attendees expressing their admiration for the program and its inspiring blend of education, culture, and heritage. Many emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives as a lasting symbol of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Germany—one that merges academic excellence with artistic expression and shared identity.
