GUC Alumnus Mahmoud Momtaz Appointed as Head of Egypt’s Competition Protection and Monopolistic Practices Prevention Authority

Dr. Mahmoud Momtaz, the German University in Cairo - GUC alumnus, was recently appointed as the head of Egypt’s Competition Protection and Monopolistic Practices Prevention Authority. His nomination to this position was by H.E. Minister Niveen Gamea, the Egyptian Minister of Industry who seeks to encourage young Egyptian experts take on leading positions. 

In 2007, Dr. Mahmoud Momtaz graduated from GUC’s Faculty of Management Technology majoring in Economics and later in 2008 he later in 2008 he got his MSc in International Business. Not only did he earn a diploma in marketing from the chartered college in the UK, but he also got his PhD degree in Competition law and Economics from the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg.

Additionally, Momtaz previously worked at the Egyptian Competition Protection Authority, where he was able to recommend amendments in competition law and the respective government’s regulations restricting monopoly. Moreover, he developed a guide for companies’ compliance with the competition protection law. He also succeeded to organize many seminars and workshops at the government’s services authority training centers to educate the entities about the competition protection law.
