Imane Helmy

Programme Assistant - Poverty Reduction Team, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), she holds a Bachelor degree from the German University in Cairo, from the faculty of Management Technology, Class 2010.

Imane is the first winner of the World Bank and the Economic Research Forum Youth Essay Competition that took place in January 2017. The main objective of this competition was to engage youth in finding innovative solutions to Youth Employment in Egypt. Out of 140 applicants, she wrote an outstanding solution-based paper that was evaluated and selected as the best essay by a panel of economists at the World Bank, academics and development practitioners. During her presentation at the final ceremony, she presented a prototype (demo) of her idea. The audience was asked to vote online about the best presentation and she was the top winner of Peoples Choice Award.

Being the top student of GUC Class10, Imane has received multiple awards for her academic achievements and research excellence. For example, her Bachelor thesis in Economics was awarded by P&G at the GUC Student Research Conference. Also, she presented her research papers about Youth Employment, Islamic Microfinance, Corruption, Growth and Inflation in several national and international conferences in Germany and United Kingdom.

- 2016: Member of Young Egyptian Economic Leader (YEEL) community aiming at connecting young economists in Egypt and engaging them in economic development and policy design.

- 2011-Present: Board Member, NGO "Alashanek Ya Balady for Sustainable Development" (AYB-SD).

- 2008-2010: Founder and President of the student club "Alashanek Ya Baladyat the German University in Cairo" (AYB-GUC).

- 2008-2009: Member of GUC Community Service program aiming at teaching pre-school children math and science using interesting creative ways, in cooperation with Siemens Egypt.
