This exhibition is organized annually by the Department of Pharmaceutical Biology, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, The German University in Cairo as a part of the Medicinal Plants and Marine Excursion Course offered to the 7th semester of Pharmacy students and 5th semester of Biotechnology students.
It is a unique event in which students prepare a poster on a specific marine drug. Each group of students, a maximum of five students, is assigned a specific drug from marine environment at the beginning of each semester. Over the semester they search everything about this drug including its biological origin, IUPAC name, methods of extracts, methods of synthesis, biological activities, mechanism of action, contraindications and available products in the market. Through this unique experience students learn to search for scientific information using Egyptian Knowledge Bank and its resources. They learn to act in a team and how to collaborate, share ideas and implement projects through teamwork. They prepare a poster summarizing all the data about the marine drug and present the poster in an exhibition resembling international conference settings.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Biology invites external reviewers to evaluate and judge each poster and discuss with students their work and their understanding of the project. Students get exposed for the first time to conferences setting and how to act, react and present your work in a professional way. The poster and the accompanying work serve as an excellent example for their capabilities to work in a team and can be presented for their future employers as evidence of their professionalism
