The Second Egyptian - German Collaborative Research Workshop between the GUC, DAAD and BMBF

The workshop was supported by GUC, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). The workshop brought a number of elite academic professors, international researchers, and top industrial companies into an active research workshop with a high level of expertise exchange and fruitful research discussions.

Overall the workshop included three international speakers from Germany, respectively from Darmstadt University, Dresden University, and Bochum University, two industrial speakers, and two research speakers’ expert in the electronics’ engineering field from Cairo University. The workshop offered an attractive platform for the GUC students who showed a high level of interest recorded by a large number of attendees in the range of 200.

An outstanding output from this collaborative workshop in the GUC was the presence of big industrial companies such as Valeo and Si-Ware which are identified as the top industrial companies in Egypt in the field of embedded systems and electronics. The two companies showed a high level of interest and presence within the workshop, where the Vice President of Si-Ware and the Director of the Research and Development Department of Valeo were both attending and participating in the workshop through their very interesting and enlightening presentations.

This opened a wide collaboration door with these industrial partners which will definitely boost any upcoming research results within real-life applications.

On the other hand, it is worthy to mention that the ongoing collaboration opened a wide door in this year for bachelor and master students in several topics as well as internship students who worked under the supervision of the involved project members from the cooperating professors and their Ph.D. students.

This included 4 bachelor thesis in Dresden University, 4 bachelor thesis in Ruhr University Bochum, as well as 2 bachelor students, 2 master students, and 7 summer internship students at Darmstadt University.

In addition, an important meeting between the GUC’s president, academic professors, and industrial partners was organized during the workshop in order to discuss all the collaboration means which will increase the achievements on all levels; undergraduate, post-graduate, and the industry needs. They decided that the third Egyptian- German collaborative Research Workshop will be organized at the GUC in 2020.
