National Research Centre (NRC)
The National Research Centre (NRC) is the largest multidisciplinary research and development institution in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.
Established in 1956, NRC is an independent public governmental organization affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
NRC possesses a robust scientific and technological infrastructure supported by a highly qualified workforce of more than 4,100 research scientists and 1,600 administrative staff, bringing the total number of employees to approximately 5,700.
The Centre comprises 14 research institutes encompassing 109 departments, covering key fields including industry, health, environment, agriculture, engineering, and basic sciences.
In addition, NRC hosts 6 Centers of Excellence and 7 experimental stations, reinforcing its role as a national hub for scientific innovation.
NRC serves as the scientific arm of the state, supporting key production and service sectors through applied and basic research, scientific consultation, and specialized training programs.
Its strategic plan aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development, aiming to strengthen the national economy through advanced scientific research and innovation.
Scientific Record
Since its establishment, NRC researchers have produced more than 100,000 international scientific publications.
In the past year alone, NRC published approximately 5,000 articles indexed in international databases.
NRC has ranked first in the SCImago classification of research institutes in the MENA region for the third consecutive time.
Additionally, NRC has obtained more than 370 patents since its foundation, including 32 patents awarded in the past year.
Entrepreneurship & Innovation
In support of Egypt’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy, NRC has recently established a specialized company dedicated to the commercialization of innovative technologies and products.
Furthermore, NRC operates three technological incubators focusing on:
- Health and pharmaceutical products
- Localization of manufacturing technologies
- Innovative textile technologies
Accreditation
NRC has been awarded several international accreditation certificates, including:
- ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification
- ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for 20 laboratories
- ISO 29990:2010 certification for the Training Department
International Cooperation
NRC maintains strong scientific collaboration with regional and international universities and research centers through joint projects, contracts, and academic agreements.
Since 2014, NRC has signed more than 75 international agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs), reinforcing its global scientific presence and partnerships.
