Microbial Biotechnology, Biofilms

This cluster covers aspects of basic microbiology, genetics and immunology, as well as industrial realization of basic pharmaceutical knowledge and biosciences in its Biotechniology focus. The cluster combines basic research with application, in fields such as molecular identification of bacterial pathogens and monitoring potential epidemic outbreaks of bacterial pathogens using molecular diagnostic techniques. Microbial Biofilms and the control of biofilm formation by fungal and bacterial pathogens are another core interest in this cluster.

Therapeutic interests include photothermal therapy using metallic nanoparticles against multidrug-resistant bacteria, antimicrobial and antiviral peptides using combinatorial techniques of phage display and SELEX.

Microbial Biotechnology, the third focus of the cluster studies scaling up and optimization of the production of biotechnological and biomedical products.
