Inauguration of the GUC Material Testing Laboratory

H.E. Dr. Annette Schavan Federal Minister for Education & Research, Germany is visiting Cairo on Tuesday the 6th June, 2006 for the inauguration of the Material Testing Laboratory, Mega Complex II and Laying the Foundation-Stone of the Industry Park at the German University in Cairo.

Speeches and presentations will be held by Dr Hani Helal, Minister of higher education and scinitic research, Dr. Rashid Mohamed Rashid Minister of Forgein Trade and Indusrty, as well as by the CEOs of the partner companies Trumpf, Festo and Deckel Maho Gildemeister.

Materials Testing is increasingly becoming of great importance with the growing trend towards quality management & quality assurance.

Technical progress in the development of new products & manufacturing technologies, which is the core of the Materials Sciences field, can not be implemented effectively without modern testing methods. Realizing these key implications, “The GUC Materials Testing Lab” is brought into existence.

The Materials Testing Lab is employing up-to-date perfected material testing machinery, modern measuring and control as well as intelligent software, all provided by leading manufacturers in Germany. Testing applications include a wide spectrum of technical materials needed in various industries and applications including: Pipes, Automotive Components, Metal alloys, Cables & insulating materials, Paints, Tires, Motor oils, Fibers, Glass, Ceramics, Liquids, Wood, Packaging materials, Plastic and Rubber parts, Medical Instruments, Paper products, Recycled products and Testing of raw materials.

The GUC Materials Lab offers a broad spectrum of measurements with high precision including the following; Tensile Strength, Testing, Impact Strength, Hardness Testing, Phase Structure of Alloys, Dynamic Viscosity of fluids, gels & suspensions, Time-Temperature modulated Thermal Behavior, Dynamic Mechanical Spectroscopy, Dielectric Properties & resistivity, Thermal Expansion, Testing of Paints, Color Recognition, Corrosion of Metals and Fourier Infrared Spectroscopy.

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour Prime Founder and Chairman of Board of Trustees confirmed that the Materials Testing Lab will provide students with considerable practice in their learning environment thus qualifying them to be eligible calibers for potential job opportunities. It will also be promoting cooperation with the different industries on the GUC campus in order to develop knowledge related to the industrial environment. Furthermore, it will allow for developing new products depending on the local raw materials that match the regional demand, consumption habits, environmental and economical capabilities and enhancing the expert capabilities of small and medium enterprises (SME) to compete with the standards of international markets.
