.: GUC Board of Trustees - Third Meeting
Cairo, 25 April 2003
A continuous and remarkable development is taking its final shape.

GUC Board of Trustees held its 3rd meeting on Friday, 25.04.2003 at the JW Marriot Hotel to discuss several issues concerning early admission, status quo, new business and opening ceremony in October 2003.

Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board welcomed the attendees and expressed his thanks to the whole team for the big achievements and efforts done and that he values much the results as excellent indicators and support for the coming start in October 2003.

A continuous and remarkable development is taking its final shape. Particularly with respect to the undergraduate "early" admission process, where a high number of applicants have applied in the past period. The results show high interest in becoming students at GUC. Nevertheless, the picture will change much more when the regular admission process starts. It is the "hot phase". It will begin after the 15th of July when students should have finished their school examinations.

Present results show that there is high interest in the academic programs of engineering, biological sciences and General Management.
First evaluations show that the average scores resulting from the reasoning test are even better than estimated.

Although GUC is a technological university, it is interesting to see that up to 40% of the applicants are females.

As for the selection of the GUC professors, the final shapes are being modeled and are taking a more focused shape. At the same time of selecting the German professors, the GUC is getting parallel approvals from the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education.

Prof. Dr. Jens Weitkamp, the German Founding Rector, pointed out that the interest of the German side to support this important project is very high especially in targeting time and quality. He reported that selected German applicants for academic positions had been interviewed at the beginning of February 2003 in Ulm and Stuttgart. Hence, the resulting rankings had been suggested to the human resources department of GUC.
The curricula have been also approved by the universities of Ulm and Stuttgart and by the senates in Germany.

"Building the Future - Possible Research at GUC" will be the theme of the Opening plan in October 2003in cooperation with the German Industry and Commerce Office, AHK. It will be inaugurated by the German Counselor and the Egyptian Prime Minister¡. An economic conference, lectures describing state-of the-art academic progress and several workshops are planned to present selected scientists from other Egyptian universities and German institutions to present their views about the two befriended countries, research needs and other topics of mutual concern.
