.: Laying GUC Foundation Stone
 
 

On 21st of October 2001, The German University in Cairo (GUC) has celebrated its Foundation Stone-Laying, at its site in New Cairo City.

The event was accomplished by H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Atef Ebeid, H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ibrahim Soliman - Minister of Housing, H.E. Dr. Moufid Shehab - Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research and H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Zakzook - Minister of Awkaf. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, the prime founder, has had the honor to welcome his distinguished guests of (GUC).

The ceremony was shared from the German side by H.E. Baron Paul Von Maltzahn - German Ambassador to Egypt, Dr. Albert Spigel - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Germany, H.E. Mr. Wolfgang Froelich - Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Science, Research & Arts, Baden Würtemberg, Germany, Prof Hans Wolf - President, University of Ulm, Prof. Dieter Fritsch - President, University of Stuttgart, Dr. Christian Bode - General Secretary of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Dr. Franz Schoser - German Chamber of Industry & Commerce and Chairman of Friendship Association of German Schools Abroad.

The event was also attended by Presidents of some Egyptian Universities, a number of professors and a few Arab and German eminent personalities from Industry and Business.

The German partner has offered GUC a present in form of a copper plate where is engraved the following statement:

["The Universities Stuttgart and Ulm (Germany) congratulate the GUC on the Foundation. We, your sister institutions assure you of our support to reach your objectives"]

On the eveningof the 22nd of October 2001, the German Embassy has celebrated the occasion, where H.E. Baron Paul Von Maltzahn, the German Ambassador to Egypt and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of GUC Founding Committee welcomed a number of Egyptian Ministers, the honorable German guests attending the Ceremony, as well as a number of University Professors and GUC friends. In his speech, Prof. Dieter Fritsch - Rector of the University of Stuttgart, expressed his thanks and gratitude to H.E. the Ambassador for his remarkable consideration given to the project and reassuring both the Universities of Stuttgart and Ulm full support for such important binational project, which is visioned as a symbol of modern civilization, developed by the two befriended nations: Egypt and Germany.
