Upon a kind initiative from H.E. Baron Paul Von Maltzahn, German Ambassador to Egypt, the GUC Friends Group held its first meeting in [View] Meeting Room, at the Marriott Hotel, on the 23rd of September 2001.

In addition to a number of business personalities from Egypt and Germany.

In his opening speech H.E. Ambassador Paul Von Maltzahn welcomed the audience, earmarking the significance of GUC role in promoting the ever developing relations between Egypt and Germany.
Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Founding Committee welcomed the audience, exposing how the principles and concepts regarding (GUC) idea has developed along years of study and consideration by intellectuals from both Egypt and Germany.
Concluding his word Dr. Mansour extended to the audience an invitation to participate in the Foundation Stone - Laying Ceremony which will take place on 21st Oct.2001 in GUC site, New Cairo City.
H.E. Dr. Moufid Shehab gave a statement where he assured the State attitude and concern to encourage and provide every support to GUC project.
Dr. Goepfrich has given a word where he pointed out the big role of GUC in preparing the highly qualified manpower, which will help improve the investment environment in Egypt and the Arab world at large.
Mr. Alexander Haridi; Director of (DAAD) office in Cairo, confirmed the strong academic relations existing between Egypt and Germany, pointing out the effective role of (DAAD) in this concern, and expressing his conviction of the promising role of GUC project in strengthening the mutual academic and cultural relations between the two countries.
