MEDIA ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

The Main Responsibilities of the Posts are:

• Research
  The successful candidate will be expected to pursue research and publication in a manner consistent with the highest scholarly standards; the appointed candidate should be able to provide strong research leadership, take appropriate roles in national and international forums for research, and develop the faculty’s national and international research links and prominence.
• Teaching Responsibilities
  Teaching will be at undergraduate and / or postgraduate levels, including supervision of graduate research students and acting as a personal adviser (tutor) to undergraduate students.
• Administration
  The appointee will be expected to contribute to the administration of the department in ways proportionate to their appointed grade. These activities include course management, membership of departmental and faculty committees, as well as taking ad hoc assignment as needed.

Data Base and Information Systems (Ref. MET- 01)
The professorship for “Data Base and Information Systems” is responsible for the fundamental education in Data Management methods, Information Systems, Conceptual database design, database concepts, database architectures, transaction processing, data recovery, information modeling DB design, information mining and relating programming methods. Specialized courses are expected in multimedia databases and enterprise process management, workflow management and decision support systems/applications. In research, various possibilities exist, such as data modeling, distributed databases, (parallel) file-systems, data storage, intelligent data organization, data repositories, object-oriented database systems, advanced query processing techniques, data integrity, mobile database systems, integrated information systems, digital libraries and records management.

Embedded Systems Engineering (Ref. MET- 02)
The professorship for “Embedded Systems” is responsible for the fundamental education in Embedded Systems, modeling of embedded systems, debugging and testing, embedded hardware and software, real-time characteristics, power management, resource allocation and design principles. The professorship participates cooperatively in courses for the Media Engineering and Technology study program. In research various possibilities exist such as specification techniques, advanced design methods, quality assurance in embedded systems, software-hardware co-design, advanced methods for system optimization, novel applications, and embedded sensor systems. Interdisciplinary research with other faculties is highly appreciated.

Programming Languages (Ref. MET- 03)
The professorship for “Programming Languages” is responsible for the fundamental education in computer programming, data structures and algorithms. Specialized courses are expected in principles and construction of compilers, parallel programming, and development of modern high level programming languages. The professorship is also responsible for introductory courses in computer science and basic and advanced computer science labs.  In research, various possibilities exist such as design of efficient algorithms, constraint programming, compiler design, parallel programming.

Computer Engineering and Architecture (Ref. MET- 04)
The professorship for “Computer Engineering and Architecture“is responsible for the fundamental education in computer engineering methods, computer system architectures, microprocessors, memory design, bus systems, and computer interfacing. Specialized courses are expected in advanced processor architectures, highly parallel architectures and super computing. The professorship participates cooperatively in courses of the Computer and
Advanced Computer Laboratory of the Bachelor and Master programs in Media Engineering and Technology (MET). In research, various possibilities exist such as application-specific processor design, parallel processing, grid computing, power-saving architectures, fault-tolerant architectures, sensor and mobile device processing architectures and advanced applications.

Video and Audio Technology (Ref. MET- 05)
Candidates must have a PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering in at least two of the following fields: image and video processing, signal processing and audio and acoustics. Additionally, they have to have a strong record of publication and attracting research funding. Experience of teaching in relevant subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English-speaking institution and team leadership skills are also required.

Media and Interaction Technology (Ref. MET- 06)
The professorship for “Media and Interaction Technology“ is responsible for the fundamental education of information representation by different media, structuring, processing, storing, transmission and presentation of media data, video and audio technologies and multimedia systems. Specialized courses are expected in audio and video communication, compression techniques, storage and display technologies and retrieval. The professorship is also responsible in the cooperative participation in courses of the Media and Advanced Media Laboratory of the Bachelor and Master Programs in Media Engineering and Technology (MET). In research, various possibilities exist such as source coding of media streams, hypermedia documentation, media analysis, design and application of multimedia systems.

Collaboration Technologies and Systems (Ref. MET- 07)
The professorship for “Collaboration Technologies and Systems“ is responsible for the fundamental education in the design and development of architectures, techniques and systems for collaborative application scenarios. Such scenarios comprise Web 2.0, social and community software, and multi-user applications in domains like e-learning and e-teaching, social networking, shared experiences (e.g. photo, video collections), or community building applications.
Courses are expected on the technical foundations to build and run such systems, as well as on the application specific requirements of the user centered development process for such systems.

Computer Science (Ref. MET – 08)
The professorship for “ computer science” is responsible for the fundamental education in theoretical computer science, automata theory , complexity theory , computer system organization , and operating systems. Specialized courses are expected in distributed computer systems, reliability and fault tolerance, cryptography, security, and middleware concepts. The professorship is also responsible for the cooperative participation in an introductory course in computer science and courses of the computer and Advanced computer laboratory of the bachelor and master programs in Media Engineering and Technology ( MET ) . In research various possibilities exist such as theoretical studies on computation and complexity, reliability , fault tolerance, concurrent and parallel process and their cooperation , cryptoanalysis , or computer security.

Computer vision and graphics (Ref. MET – 09)
The professorship for “computer vision and Graphics” is responsible for the fundamental education in dealing with images using computers. On the one hand the analysis of given images requires image processing , recognition and interpretation , on the other hand the constructive side deals with the entire computer graphics pipeline comprising e.g. data structures and scene modeling, illumination and rendering. Courses are expected on the foundation image processing, object recognition , scene interpretation , computer graphics and rendering. Special courses could be in the areas like motion capturing , video analysis, real rime rendering, or specific applications – oriented courses.

Computing and Systems (Ref. MET – 10)
The professorship for “Computing and Systems” is expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, in addition to developing research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, including robotics, reasoning and cognition, and natural language processing.

Artificial intelligence (Ref. MET – 12)
The professorship for “ Artificial intelligence “ is expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, in addition to developing research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, including robotics, reasoning and cognition, and natural language processing.
