"Technical Progress in the development of new products and technologies is based on the evolution and creation of new and innovative materials as well as the processing technology. Directing this research work towards application is extremely important and needs engineers with an excellent knowledge of materials science, strength of materials as well as production engineering.

The aim of the study program of Materials Science is to supply GUC students with an important knowledge that makes them the most qualified in this field.

We are looking for interested students who can demonstrate their ability to succeed and to produce outstanding results".

GUC Founding Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science

.: About Engineering and Materials Science

Materials Engineering plays a key role in developing, operating and manufacturing new machines, devices, plants, processes and new products. Since the knowledge of the materials' behaviour and the reasonable application is the basis for successful engineering and design, this study program offers tremendous possibilities to students regarding their future ambitions.

In fact, Materials Engineering covers a markedly diverse range of disciplines such as modelling and simulation of materials, finite element method, recycling, strength of materials, material science, e.g. material adopted manufacturing processes, materials testing, damage, corrosion and wear.

The relevant materials are steel, castings, composites, ceramics and plastics. Furthermore, basics of mechanical engineering are treated in this program, i.e., engineering design, computer aided design and material manufacturing technologies, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, information technology, probability and statistics, quality and project management.

.: Career Opportunities

A degree in materials from GUC is an excellent qualification for those interested in careers as diverse as industry, research and commerce. While employment patterns change from year to year, the underlying trends within industry are placing even greater emphasis on the need to recruit highly qualified graduates with a degree in the materials field. The future is likely to offer rewarding and challenging opportunities for our graduates.

Most graduates select their careers in industry or with research establishments associated with one or more of the main subject areas including metals, alloys, ceramics, glass, plastic, rubber, fibre, composites and electrical materials.

The high-technology industries are increasingly looking for graduates with a wide appreciation of the field of materials. For many major companies, new and improved products are given a high priority.
