The German University in Cairo GUC celebrates the hand-over for the GUC Presidency

The German University in Cairo GUC celebrates the hand-over for the GUC Presidency. Prof. Yasser Gamal Hegazy is taking the lead from Prof. Mahmoud Hashem Abdelkader. Prof. Abdelkader served the GUC mission for about 15 years. Marking the new Leadership, Prof. Hegazy served as GUC Dean for Faculty of Information Engineering & Technology from 2009 till 2016. He served as well as GUC Vice-president for student affairs from 2015 till 2017. He has various achievements in the academic and research fields. In 2004 he was awarded the Egyptian state encouragement award in Engineering Sciences from the Egyptian Academy for Science and Research. In 2016, he received The Outstanding Engineering Award from IEEE PES chapter. Prof. Hegazy is the chair for the International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET).

Prof. Ashraf Mansour, GUC Prime Founder & The Chairman of the Board of Trustees awarded Prof. Abdelkader 2 recognitions for his excellent work and in token of gratitude & in appreciation of devoted efforts  during the last 15 years. He shared GUC vision & philosophy, and values and stressed the fact that the three where the guidelines of the work of the GUC throughout the last 15 years. He said that these values where the corner stone and the shield that safe guarded GUC through difficult times. It is now, that GUC is an example to be followed which endorse 42% of total number of students studying in German universities outside Germany.

The president of Ulm University awarded Prof. Hegazy the Lion Man Award which is a statue that has a face of a lion and a body of man which symbolizes the power and wisdom. This statue is a replica of a 2000 year old one that was found in the forests of Ulm, Germany.

Prof. Yasser Hegazy conducted the “GUC presidency Oath” to mark acceptance of GUC Rectorship duties. In his speech he said that it is a great honor and pride to be named as the second president of this internationally recognized and leading university the GUC. He added that this pride is coupled with a great sense of responsibility at this historic stage in which the GUC is celebrating 15 years of success.

The procedures of the election took a few months where an academic committee-includes different German Rectors- that is headed by GUC Chairman of Board of trustees look into the resumes’ of nominees. Finally, Prof. Hegazy was elected as the 2nd president of GUC for a 4 year term.

The celebration was attended by GUC Members of Board of Trustees guests, Minister for Higher Education Prof. Khaled AbdelGhafar, German Ambassador to Egypt H.E Julius George Luy, President of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD Prof. Margret Wintermantel, and DAAD General Secretary Dr. Dorothea Rueland. DAAD Head of German Study Offers in the Near East, Asia, Africa and Latin America Frau Isabell Mering, and President of Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig Prof. Dr. Thomas Locher , Prof. Gamal shiha Head of Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Egyptian Parliament.
