GUC Programming Team Advanced to the World Finals in Saint Petersburg in 2013

A team from the GUC is one of the top 100 teams that has qualified to advance to the 2013 ACM-ICPC World Finals sponsored by IBM and that will be hosted in Saint Petersburg, Russia in June 2013. This is the fourth time in the young history of the GUC that a team from the GUC participates in the world finals and the third time to participate in three consecutive years.

The ACM ICPC is the largest computer programming contest in the world. The ACM ICPC is an activity of the ACM that provides college students with an opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their problem-solving and computing skills. The contest is considered to be the "Olympics of Computer Programming". ACM ICPC is a two tier contest. The world is divided into six regions and Arab world is a region. To qualify to the ACM ICPC, teams should compete in ACM ICPC regional contests.

The Arab Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) is the qualifying round for the ACM ICPC in the Arbab region. The 2012 Fifteenth Arab Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC 2012) was hosted by Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Amman, Jordan from 9 to 12 December, 2012. This year, 60 teams participated in the contest.

The GUC participated with three teams; die Eliten, Expulso and BFKoders. All teams are supervised by Prof. Dr. Slim Abdennadher and Omar Elazzazy. The team die Eliten consisting of Mostafa Fahim Sayed Hammad, Ahmed Ibrahim Abdrabo, and Moustafa Aly Mohamed Aly El- Shikh ranked third and qualified to the ICPC finals that will be held in June 2013 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In addition, the team die Eliten won the award Solid Programmers for the team that solves the most number of problems without penalties.

The second team Expulso consisting of Mostafa Mahmoud Amin Ismail Mohamed, Omar Mohamed Abd El Moneim Mohamed Darwish, and Islam Abdelsadek Aziz Hamid Al-Aarag. The third team consisting of third term students Khaled Ahmed Abdelmohsen, Mohammed Soliman Ahmed Farghal, Mohamed Bassem Abdel Hafiz Mahmoud Hassona ranked seventeenth.
