GUC proudly celebrated its 10th Anniversary and Graduation of its Class 2012

The German University in Cairo (GUC) celebrated its annual graduation ceremony coinciding with its 10th Anniversary on its premises on Saturday, October 6th, 2012.

The evening highlighted a big celebration on this occasion – starting from Honoring of GUC eldest members from the administration sector and its academics who had joined the university since its early days, followed by graduating its class 2012 which comprised of a total of 1,503 graduates – including four PhD, 54 M.Sc., 25 MBA candidates and 1,420 B.Sc. candidates from the various specializations/faculties.

German, Egyptian and international public and academic dignitaries were keen on attending this celebration. Among those prominent figures were H.E. Michael Bock, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Egypt, H.E. Paul Freiherr von Maltzahn, Vice President German Council on Foreign Relations and Former German Ambassador to Egypt at the time of establishment, Dr. Dorothea Rüland, General Secretary of the DAAD and Mr. Erik Betterman, the Director of the German Deutsche Welle TV.

In their speeches addressed at the Graduating Class of 2012, all speakers stressed on their trust in the academic quality of the GUC and expressed their confidence in GUC graduates’ potential. They also emphasized on the importance of the GUC model to both Germany and Egypt and expressed their best wishes on the occasion of the GUC 10th Anniversary.

Professor Ashraf Mansour, GUC Prime Founder and Chairman of its Board of Trustees started his speech by honoring Abdel-Rahman Darwish, the GUC Student Union 2011 President, who had undergone a serious accident last year and could unfortunately not take part in the graduation ceremony of his class. Therefore, and as Prof. Mansour had announced during the Ceremony for Class 2011, he awarded Abdel-Rahman his B.Sc. in Engineering Certificate on stage, in presence of his accompanying family.

The night ended with a highlighting, spectacular live laser and fire show followed by extensive fire-works that impressed the audience who exceeded 10,000 guests.
