The GUC Digital Media Campus (DMC) is the first of its kind among universities worldwide, offering latest state-of-the-art high digital technology in the field of Media and Communication. The DMC Facility aims to provide GUC students with a wide range of media skills and experience giving them the chance to learn how to produce TV and Radio programs and improve their talents by using their imagination and creativity. It furthermore serves as a research institution for valuable media and training services based on the latest multimedia broadcasting technology DVB-H) that is a new transmission system for multimedia reception on mobile receivers.

The DMC project was accomplished with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Germany and in cooperation with Fraunhofer-Institute and the Deutsche Welle, Germany. This facility was officially inaugurated on November 20th 2007.

Technical Features

DRM Radio Station

DRM is a digital broadcasting standard for the use in AM-bands below 30-MHz with FM. sound quality available to worldwide markets. It enables:

• The transmission of a wide range of audio content, including multilingual. speech and music.
• High quality audio
• Integration of data and text
• Displaying of content on DRM receivers to enhance the listening experience

The DMC is equipped with state of the art DRM production and transmission hardware and software modules including DRM test equipment, DRM test receivers, DRM RF processors, DRM modulator, DRM multiplex generators (MDI stream) and others.

DVB-H Station

DVB-H is a standard to broadcast multimedia content to mobile devices. Based on the terrestrial television standard and as a member of the powerful DVB family of standards, it offers many exciting features such as:

• Improved image quality, sound quality (e.g. through multi-channel audio)
• Higher capacity through digital transmission
• Enler for new content formats: niche programming, commercial broadcasting.
• Powerful Conditional Access technology
• New perspectives for the convergence of multimedia and mobile communication.

The DMC DVB-H station is a complete chain for producing DVB-H transmission equipped with IP real time MPEG-4 Audio Video Encoders, IP encapsulator, DVB Electronic. Service Guide and UHF transmitters.
